Precision work requires a professional working environment. That is why R.O. Watches in Heerlen has a dedicated watchmaking cleanroom and high-end equipment for the production, repair and maintenance of mechanical watches.
In 2020 the atelier was further expanded with this professional cleanroom. R.O. Watches thus has a controlled working environment in which delicate mechanical movements can be carefully disassembled, cleaned, assembled and inspected.

From watchmaker to a Dutch watch brand of his own
The knowledge Roland Oostwegel gained during his training at the Staatliche Zeichenakademie in Hanau, and an additional training at Glashütte Original, internships in Germany and decades of practical experience ultimately formed the foundation for his own watch brand: R.O. Watches.
In 2008 he developed the patented R.O. Watches Shock-System®, designed to better protect the delicate mechanical movement against external forces and shocks.
The technology was ultimately even put to the test beyond Earth. An R.O. Watch travelled with astronaut André Kuipers to the International Space Station.
Developing a mechanical watch of our own means we do not only maintain watches — we work every day with the technology behind the movement itself.
When does a mechanical watch need servicing?
A mechanical watch can run trouble-free for years, but the oils and lubricants in the movement age, and parts are constantly subject to mechanical stress.
Signs that your watch should be checked include, for example:
- the watch suddenly runs fast or slow;
- the power reserve becomes noticeably shorter;
- the watch stops while sufficiently wound;
- the crown turns differently than usual;
- moisture or condensation is visible under the crystal;
- the watch has suffered a hard fall or impact;
- the watch has not been serviced for a long time.
If there is moisture in the watch or after severe damage, do not wait longer than necessary. The sooner the movement can be checked, the greater the chance of limiting further damage.
