Care & Maintenance
As a proud wearer of an R.O. Watch, you own a unique example of Dutch craftsmanship, equipped with our patented Shock-System®. To safeguard the precision, aesthetics and longevity of your watch, we advise you to follow these care guidelines.
Preserving aesthetics
Your R.O. Watch is crafted from high-grade materials such as stainless steel, gold, platinum or carbon.
Chemicals
Make sure cosmetics, perfumes and creams have fully absorbed before putting on your watch. Chemical ingredients can affect the gaskets and damage the case finish.
Cleaning
Wipe the case and sapphire crystal regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents.
Extreme conditions
Thanks to the Shock-System®, your watch is considerably more resistant to impacts, but remember that this resistance is not unlimited; avoid heavy impact. Also do not expose the watch to extreme temperatures or prolonged direct sunlight, to prevent the oil in the movement from drying out.
Water resistance & straps
Water resistance is not a permanent property; gaskets can dry out over time.
Our service
Although the quality of R.O. Watches is very high, maintenance is essential. As a special service, we check your watch for water resistance free of charge every year in our atelier in Heerlen.
Leather straps
Our handmade alligator leather straps are specially coated on the sides and lined on the inside with caoutchouc (natural rubber) for optimal moisture resistance. To preserve the suppleness and quality of the leather, we still advise avoiding direct contact with water to guarantee the lifespan and flexibility of the leather.
The crown & water resistance
The crown is uniquely constructed with multiple shock-absorbing gaskets. This allows it to move with the Shock-System® while keeping the watch water-resistant to at least 5 ATM. Essential: Always ensure the crown is fully pressed in to the 0-position after setting the time or winding. Only then is your watch hermetically sealed against moisture.
The beating heart
The mechanical movement (incl. Valjoux 7750, Valjoux 7751 or ETA 2892a2) in your R.O. Watch comes to life through interaction with you.
Movement
As long as you wear the watch, the rotor winds the spring through your arm movements.
Manual winding
Has the watch been idle for a while? Turn the crown 30 to 40 times clockwise (in closed position or first position, depending on the model) until the seconds hand starts moving. Preferably do this off the wrist, to avoid stressing the winding stem.
Power reserve
When fully wound, our movements offer a power reserve of approximately 40 to 48 hours (depending on the model and any modules such as a power-reserve indicator).
Invisible influences
Magnetism is a common cause of inaccuracy in mechanical watches. Strong magnetic fields (from speakers, tablets, induction hobs or magnetic bag closures, for example) can magnetise the hairspring in the movement. Try to avoid direct contact with strong magnets. Is your watch suddenly running fast or slow? In our atelier we can easily demagnetise the movement for you.
Service & maintenance
An R.O. Watch is an instrument for life.
Cleaning yourself
You can carefully clean the case and metal bracelet with a soft toothbrush and a little lukewarm water. Do not use soap, as it can leave residue. Never submerge leather straps in water.
Professional maintenance
We recommend a full service in our own atelier once every four years. Our skilled watchmakers dismantle, clean and oil the movement, and check the Shock-System® for optimal performance. This way your R.O. Watch will perform for generations.
