"That was when it clicked," he recalls. "I saw the analogy. If we can isolate a building from an earthquake, we must be able to isolate a movement from the wrist." In the limited space of a watch case — where every tenth of a millimetre counts — he developed a system in which the movement literally floats in the case, suspended from a special 'shock swing spring'.
